Diabetes Diagnosis at MU Health Care
Accurate diagnosis is the first step toward managing diabetes effectively.
Your care team may recommend several tests, including:
- Blood glucose tests: Check for high blood sugar levels.
- A1C tests: Measure your average blood sugar over the past three months.
- Oral glucose tolerance tests: Evaluate how your body reacts to a high-sugar drink.
- Antibody tests: Can detect pancreatic antibodies often associated with Type 1 diabetes, helping your care team distinguish it from Type 2 diabetes in some cases.
- Genetic tests: Check for inherited forms such as MODY.
We may also order tests to determine if you have complications from diabetes. These tests can check your lipids (like cholesterol), kidneys, liver, thyroid and other organs.
Based on your tests, we’ll create a personalized care plan to help you get better control of your blood sugar and protect your long-term health.
