During the EKG-monitored individualized rehabilitation
program, participants work with our staff three days a week for approximately
12 weeks following an exercise prescription designed to strengthen the heart
and cardiovascular system.
Benefits Include
Increased physical strength and muscle tone
Decreased heart rate during exercise
Lower blood pressure
Improved mental health
Reduced body fat
Improved pumping action of the heart
Enhanced lung ability to take up and use oxygen
Pulmonary Programs
Pulmonary rehabilitation is designed to help individuals
who live with chronic lung diseases such as emphysema, asthma and chronic bronchitis.
The goal of the program is to limit the progression of the disease while helping
patients lead a more fulfilling life. To start the program, a complete pulmonary
evaluation and diagnostic work-up is conducted and an individualized exercise
prescription is developed.
Education
Through education programs and individual counseling,
our staff helps prepare participants for a gratifying return to better health.
Support Groups
The Heart to Heart Club, a lively support group, was
founded for individuals and families living with heart disease. In addition
to providing people with the opportunity to learn more about heart disease and
share similar concerns, the Club presents informative programs on a regular
basis. The Heart to Heart Club meets bi-monthly
at CRMC.
Continued Care
Before completing the rehabilitation program, each participant
begins a maintenance regimen that they are encouraged to continue through Capital
Region Healthplex or at home.
